PP win most seats in General Election, but fail to reach majority

PP has won the General Election, winning 136 seats in a vote which delivered less of a swing than was expected.

Whilst the party has won the most individual seats, it failed to gain an absolute majority, whilst it’s possible coalition partners Vox also fell short of what was expected.

PP gained 136 seats, PSOE 122, Vox came in third with 33 seats and Sumar ended up with 31 seats.

Catalan independence parties Junts per Catalynua and ERC gained 14 seats, whilst Basque regional party EH Bildhu gained 6 seats.

Negotiations between parties are set to now begin in earnest, with PP and PSOE set to meet with parties over the next few days.

However, despite PP winning the most individual seats, support for their assumed coalition partner Vox failed to materialise. The far-right party lost 19 seats on yesterdays vote, meaning that they failed to reach the 176 seats needed to gain an absolute majority.
