Benahavís forest fire alert risen to phase one
A forest fire in Benahavís, in Málaga province, has been raised to emergency phase one after spreading rapidly through the area.
The town centre and the La Coja housing development have been placed under preventive confinement, while homes in the Monte Mayor area have been evacuated.
More than 100 firefighters and around 20 aircraft are involved in the operation.
Two people have been injured, including a man with burns and a firefighter who suffered a fractured wrist. Strong easterly winds and difficult terrain are making efforts to contain the fire more challenging.
