Nearly all of Spain reconnected to electricity after day of power cut chaos

Spain is recovering from a massive power outage that struck the Iberian Peninsula yesterday. The blackout, which began around 12:30 PM local time, affected millions across Spain and Portugal, disrupting transportation, communication, and essential services.​

Reports indicate that the Spanish power grid operator, Red Electrica, is working diligently with energy firms to restore power across the affected regions. The outage began at 12:30 and is described as being on a national level.

In response to the crisis, the Spanish government declared a national emergency in eight autonomous communities, including Madrid, Andalusia, Extremadura, Murcia, La Rioja, Galicia, Castilla-La Mancha, and the Valencian Community. This measure enables coordinated management of resources and the deployment of military support where necessary.

While power has been largely restored in urban centers, some rural areas continue to experience outages. Authorities are working diligently to fully restore electricity and are conducting a thorough investigation to prevent future incidents.

Portugal and parts of France were affected by the outage, further complicating the situation.
