Power Cut in Spain and Portugal Caused by Miscalculation

The government has confirmed that April’s major power cut – which affected vast regions of Spain and Portugal – was due to a miscalculation.

The incident, which occurred in late April, caused widespread chaos as millions faced disruptions to essential services, including airports, trains, and internet access.

Energy Minister Sara Aagesen stated that insufficient thermal power stations were online during peak hours, leading to the outage.

A government report due to be published in the coming days outlined that several power plants, which are legally required to assist in regulating the grid’s voltage, failed to do so adequately.

The investigation also revealed no evidence of a cyberattack as the cause of the incident.
