Reforms to “Only Yes Means Yes” law passed by Senate

The Senado has given it’s final approval to reforms of the “Only Yes Means Yes” law, which means it will pass into law tomorrow.

Members of the Cortes upper house passed the reforms without amendment, meaning it will now automatically enter the statute books.

PSOE, PP and PNV voted to support the amendments to the legistlation, which were brought in following widespread criticism of unintended consequencies of the new law.

The new text includes a subtype of sexual assault, as well as tougher penalites for those found guilty.

Coalition partners Podemos refused to support PSOE, after they say they were not consulted over the amendments to the law.
