Pedro Sánchez Apologises Amid Growing Corruption Scandal

The Prime Minister – Pedro Sánchez – has apologised to the Spanish pubic following a corruption scandal involving senior PSOE party colleagues.

He expressed disappointment in Santos Cerdán, who is facing legal scrutiny over public contract irregularities.

Despite mounting pressure, Sánchez ruled out early elections, insisting his government will continue until the end of the current parliamentary term in 2027.

However deputy prime minister Yolanda Díaz from left-wing coalition partner Sumar said she also wanted explanations.

Opposition leader Alberto Núñez Feijóo called for Sánchez’s resignation and for political partners to abandon their support of the government, stating that “survival is no longer an option”.

The statement came after PSOE Secretary Santos Cerdán announced his resignation after being summoned to the Supreme Court to answer questions regarding payments for public contracts.

Mr. Cerdán denies any wrongdoing, and has resigned to defend himself in court.
