Hundreds of kilometres of motorway go toll free

Over 550 kilometres of motorway across the country has become toll free.

As of midnight today, barriers on routes running between Zaragoza and the Mediterranean coast, in parts of Catalonia and between France and Tarragona are to be raised to allow for the free passage of vehicles.

However the end of the tolls is expected to be short lived, with a new tolling system expected to be introduced in 2024.

The change leaves 1,500km of tolled roads across the country.
