Forest fire plans brought forward due to hot weather

Government plans for tackling forest fires has been brought forward by a number of weeks, after meterological agency Aemet said Spain was on course to see further hot weather spells in the coming weeks.

Last week saw record breaking temperatures in parts of Spain, and as a result the Government has brought forward it’s forest fire action plan, which will see additional resources allocated to the tackling of wildfires.

Whilst normally the operation to tackle blazes would begin in mid-June, the Government announced that the first meeting of the CECOD – the body which manages the State Forest Fire Plan – would take place a month and half ahead of previous years.

Drought conditions are increasing the risk to forests and scrub land across the country.
