Rescue effort finds body of missing boy, after two weeks of effort – Live updates from the day

Eight rescue miners working in teams of two have been lowered into a shaft parallel to the borehole where a two year old boy has been trapped in for nearly two weeks. The final phase of the rescue mission began shortly before 6pm local time on Thursday evening.

40,000 tonnes of earth and stones have been excavated in 55 hours, during the construction of the 60 metre deep rescue shaft. 300 people have been involved in the rescue mission.

It is hoped that the rescue mission will discover the trapped Julen, who fell down the borehole in Totalán, near to Malaga.

Despite search efforts, no sign of life has been reported since his fall.
