Parents face twenty year sentence for murder of newborn child

State prosecutors have called for a 20-year sentence for a couple accused of murdering their newborn son in October 2016.

The trial in Elche resumed this week against the parents of the infant, who was thrown into rubbish container in Pilar de la Horadada.

Prosecutors say that the baby – whilst born premature – survived the birth, and would have lived.

Both defendants deny any wrongdoing.
