First case of Indian coronavirus variant detected in Valencian region

The department of health in the Valencian region has confirmed the first case of the Indian or Delta variant of the coronavirus after being treated in Elche.

It’s understood the person – who is under medical observation at the General University Hospital of Elche – travelled to the area from Madrid, where it is believed they contracted the virus.

Medical professionals have confirmed that the patient is in isolation, and is responding well to treatment.
