Forest fire plans approved by Government
The Government has approved this years plans for forest fires, following a meeting earlier this week of the cabinet.
Minister of the Interior – Fernando Grande-Marlaska – confirmed that the plans which had been outlined earlier this year had been approved in one of the last cabinet meetings before next months General Election.
The official campaign to tackle forest fires was brought forward by two months, beginning at the end of April, when it normally would begin this week.
Last year over 300,000 hectares of forest were destroyed in wildfires, with the affected areas almost tripleing in size over the last decade.
