Sedition charges dropped against former Catalan regional president
The Supreme Court has lifted sedition charges that were in place against former Catalan regional president Carles Puigdemont, however charges for embezzlement and political and civil disobedience remain in force.
It was announced that judge Pablo Llarena lifted the charge following the ascent into law of changes to the penal code.
Whilst European arrest warrants for sedition have also been cancelled, they still remain for the other two outstanding charges.
Mr. Puigdemont was the regional president during the contested independence referendum and declaration in October 2017. He has remained mostly in Belgium since then in a self imposed exile.
