Singer Shakira reaches deal to avoid trial
Pop star Shakira has reached a deal with tax authorities in Spain to avoid a high-profile trial.
Instead of facing a trial for her alleged failure to pay €14.5 million in taxes between 2012 and 2014, Shakira has agreed to pay a fine of €7 million.
The trial, which was expected to involve numerous witnesses, has now been called off. Prosecutors have also dropped their demand for Shakira to be jailed.
Throughout the case, Shakira maintained her innocence and sought advice from tax authorities and advisors.
This settlement will allow her to focus on her children, career, and upcoming world tour and album.
In fact, she was recently recognized as one of the big winners at the Latin Grammys, taking home three awards.
With this legal matter resolved, Shakira can now move forward and continue to delight her fans with her music.
