Farmers hold protest in Barcelona

Hundreds of farmers from Catalonia, armed with artichokes and tractors, converged upon Barcelona to express their distress over the ongoing severe drought affecting their livelihoods and agriculture.

The protest, underscored by a culinary display at its centre, highlighted the farming community’s urgent call for additional support and intervention from regional authorities amidst severely low reservoir levels, now below 16% of their capacity.

The protests came after the regional government imposed restriction on water use.
