Workers at Spanish tourist airport arrested for stealing from passengers’ luggage
Fourteen workers at Tenerife Sur airport have been arrested for stealing from passengers’ luggage.
Police seized stolen items worth almost two million euros from the employees, including thirteen thousand euros cash, 29 luxury watches, 120 items of jewellery, and 22 mobile phones and electronic devices.
Belongings were stolen from checked-in luggage as it was being placed in the aircraft hold.
The investigation was prompted by an increase in passenger complaints about missing items.
Police suspect that many of the stolen items were sold online or in local shops.
An additional twenty airport employees are under investigation.
Around eleven million passengers, mostly European tourists, travel through the airport yearly.
