More villages evacuated as Tenerife wildfire continues to spread
Further evacuations have taken place after the wildfire on the island of Tenerife continues to burn out of control.
Firefighters confirmed that the blaze has already destroyed around 1,800 hectares of woodland.
Authorities in the north eastern area of the island have ordered the evacuation of five villages in the affected area, with roads to and from the scenes of the fire closed.
The villages of Igueste de Candelaria, Arrate, Chivisaya, Media Montaña, Ajafoña and Las Lagunetas have been evacuated whilst partial evacuations are taking place between Cruz del Camino to Los Brezos, with additional measures possible as the blaze continues.
Over 300 firefighters and 15 helicopters are involved in tackling the fire, with additional support coming from Gran Canaria and other islands in the archipelago.
On Tuesday the regional government issued a fire alert following on from hot and windy weather that increased the risk of wildfires.
