4-day working week trial seeking applications

Companies with fewer than 250 employees have been given a month to apply for a pilot scheme which will see workers operate a four-day week.

The €9.6 million scheme will allow small and medium sized businesses to trial the shorter working week, with around 25% to 30% of employees working around 10% fewer hours on the same salary. Companies will be compensated for any additional costs related to the trials.

Firms that have applied will know by the end of the year if they are to take part in the trial, which is set to last up to two years.
