Spain’s Congress passes controversial amnesty law for Catalonia
The Congress of Deputies has approved the controversial Catalan amnesty law, aimed at normalising the situation in Catalonia, with 177 votes in favour.
Amidst heated debate, the law, which formed part of the confidence and supply agreement to enable the formation of the PSOE government, passed after it was put into veto in the Senado.
Opposition parties PP and Vox called the legislation “political corruption”, however the the government claimed it as a “victory for democracy.”
It now faces judicial scrutiny and possible challenges in the courts as it is enacted.
