Spain expels US embassy staff accused of bribing Spanish intelligence officers
Spain has discreetly expelled at least two US Embassy staff members who are accused of bribing Spanish intelligence officers for state secrets.
The investigation revealed that two Spanish intelligence officers provided information in exchange for a large sum of money.
Speaking about the case, Defence Minister Margarita Robles downplayed any impact on relations with the US.
A judicial inquiry is underway into the conduct at the CNI, following the news of the investigation earlier tis week.
The US Ambassador to Spain has not commented on the case, and the embassy personnel were quietly withdrawn at Madrid’s request.
