Spain Braces for First Major Heatwave of the Summer
Meteorological Agency Aemet has said that Spain is currently facing its first significant heatwave of the summer, with daily temperatures exceeding 40 degrees Celsius in numerous locations, including the Guadalquivir Valley where it’s predicted to reach up to 44 degrees Celsius.
Parts of southern Spain will see temperatures reach their peak on Friday, with warnings issued across much of the country.
People are being advised to ensure they drink enough water to avoid dehydration, as well as to avoid exposure to the sun at peak periods. Regional authorities in affected areas have also increased monitoring for wildfires over the coming weeks.
