Madrid Mayor advises residents to stay at home as heavy rain and storms hit Spain

Intense rains have caused flooding in various regions across the country, including Zaragoza, Valencia, Navarra, and Castellón.

Valencia, Toledo, and Cataluña remain under amber and yellow, but the storm system is expected to move away from Spain today, with rainfall decreasing from tomorrow.

Yesterday afternoon, Madrid’s mayor – Jose Luis Martinez-Almeida – urged residents to stay indoors as heavy rain and storms caused localised flooding in the capital.

Residents were sent text message alerts advising them to remain indoors as the storm system hit.

The flooding came after weather agency AEMET issued a red alert for Madrid, Toledo, and Cadiz.

Meanwhile in the Tarragona region, residents in the town of Alcanar were confined to their homes due to flooding caused by two hundred and fifteen litres per square metre of rain in the past twenty-four hours.
