Increase in Hate Speech Following Natural Disaster
A report from the Racism and Xenophobia Observatory has revealed a rise in hate speech linked to the severe flooding that struck the Valencia region in October.
The report indicates that thirty percent of hate content associated the disaster with specific ethnic groups, including North Africans and the Roma community.
The research indicates that hate speech overwhelmingly targets groups from North Africa, with thirty-four percent of reports aimed at them.
Despite attempts to moderate content, social media platforms are still witnessing high levels of hate speech.
