Highest temperature in September recorded

Spain has matched its highest-ever September temperature.

AEMET says temperatures reached 45.7 degrees Celsius at El Granado in Huelva, equalling the September record set at Montoro in Córdoba in 2016.

The reading was also the highest temperature recorded anywhere in Spain so far this year.

AEMET briefly issued its highest red warning for extreme heat in parts of Andalusia, while warning that the country had experienced its hottest January-to-August period on record.
