Guardia Civil And OLAF Collaborate In Operation ‘Dashboard’, Leading To 12 Arrests At Scrapyard In Villagarcía De Arousa
Guardia Civil, in collaboration with the European Anti-Fraud Office (OLAF), have arrested and investigated 12 people linked to a scrapyard in Villagarcía de Arousa (Pontevedra) for illegal waste management.
This operation, named “Dashboard,” uncovered over 5,000 improperly decontaminated vehicles over five years, posing significant environmental risks due to unrecovered hazardous fluids.
The investigation began when trucks from the UK carrying vehicles were detected at the Port of Santander, revealing 424 vehicles linked to the scrapyard since Brexit.
Additionally, an agricultural warehouse associated with the scrapyard contained over 4,000 used tires without proper permits, further increasing environmental hazards.
The suspects face charges including environmental crimes, forgery, money laundering, and membership in a criminal group.
