Government announces billions in funding for drought stricken agricultural sector
The government has announced funding of over €2 billion to help tackle the ongoing drought conditions which are affecting the agricultural sector.
New water supplies, direct aid and subsidies have all been announced in a package worth €2.19 billion.
Last week Environment Minister Teresa Ribera said that her department would start work on new infrasrutcure such as desalination plants and urban water purification systems to alleviate the ongoing shortages of water.
€784 million has been earmarked to support agricultural production, which is suffering significant impacts due to the lack of rainfall.
