Forest Fires Report Confirms Significant Decrease in Incidents this Year

Forest fires in Spain have burned over forty three thousand hectares, marking a significant decrease compared to last year, according to a report released this week by the Ministry of the Interior.

Of the nearly five thousand fires reported, almost seventy one percent were rapidly extinguished.

Only seventeen were classified as major fires.

Internationally, Spain has also assisted in combating fires abroad. Under a bilateral agreement with Portugal, Spanish resources responded to thirteen fires, while Portugal provided support for an incident in Huelva.

Additionally, Spain participated in emergency responses in Guatemala, Bulgaria, and Madeira through the European Civil Protection Mechanism.
