European Commission approves draft Spanish budget as debate continues

The European Commission has approved the draft Spanish budget, but has voiced their concerns over debt sustainability as the country continues to battle the economic fall out from the coronavirus.

The announcement came as members of the Congress of Deputies continued to debate the country’s fiscal plans for the next year. Deputy prime minister Pablo Iglesias defended his party’s amendment to the budget which extended the prohibition of evictions.

Meanwhile coalition partner PSOE’s Minister of Economic Affairs, Nadia Calviño, called for Iglesias not to cause conflict, but to focus on the requirement to pass the budgets as soon as possible.
