Births in Spain have fallen by thirty 38% since 2008, marking the third largest decline in the European Union, according to Funcas.

This report highlights that Cantabria saw the steepest drop at forty nine percent.

Adjacent regions like Asturias, La Rioja, and the Canary Islands also report sharp decreases, with declines ranging from forty-two to forty-five percent.

The study notes that this decrease in births is occurring in twenty-two of the twenty-seven EU countries from 2008 to 2023.
