Moreno Bonilla calls Andalusian elections for Sunday 17 May

Andalusian president Juanma Moreno has called regional elections for Sunday 17 May, bringing the current legislature to an early close.

He argues that Andalusia needs a “strong and stable government” to face upcoming economic and social challenges, and says the region cannot remain dependent on fragmented parliamentary support.

The decree will be published in the coming days, with the campaign officially beginning on 2 May.

All parties are now preparing for a rapid electoral contest in Spain’s most populous region.
