Death toll from flooding rises to 205, with fears more dead to be discovered

The death toll from this weeks floods has increased to 205 – making it one of Spain’s most deadly natural disasters.

Most of the victims from Tuesday’s flooding were from the Valencian region, whilst fatalities have also been reported in Castilla-La Mancha and Malaga.

Whilst rescue and recovery operations continue, the longer term effects of the flood are starting to become apparent.

Approximately one hundred thousand remain without power and drinkable water is in short supply in the worst affected places.

Meanwhile minister of territorial policy, Ángel Víctor Torres, announced the deployment of five hundred additional military personnel to Valencia – bolstering the existing twelve hundred already on the ground.
