Fears death toll could increase as investigation launched into nightclub fire that killed 13
At least 13 people are confirmed to have died in a nightclub fire in Murcia, officials in the region have confirmed.
An investigation has been launched, after the fire which broke out at the Teatre nightclub in the early hours of Sunday morning.
Firefighters on the scene have said they remain concerned over the structure of the building, with fears further parts of the site could collapse on rescue workers trying to locate and identify victims.
The mayor of Murcia – Jose Ballesta – said in a press conference that they were working to establish the cause of the blaze.
Three days of offical mourning has been declared for the victims of the fire – which also destroyed a number of ajoining bars and businesses.
Four people remain in hospital for treatment for smoke inhalation.
