Alicante-Elche Airport to remain closed until noon after terminal fire
Thousands of passengers and dozens of flights were cancelled or diverted yesterday, after a fire broke out at Alicante-elche airport.
The airport is to remain closed until at least midday, after the blaze on the roof of the terminal building.
The fire was brought under control a few hours after breaking out, however bomberos are working through the night damping down the blaze.
Flights from airports across Europe are being diverted, and passengers are being advised to contact their operator before travelling to the airport.
Four flights have been diverted according to the latest data from Aena. 3 flights to Murcia International Airport and 1 flight to Valencia Airport.
Photos and videos on social media show flames on the roof of the airport and large plumes of smoke being sent into the sky.

There are no reported injuries due to the fire.
