Irishman detained in connection to death of Irishwoman in Salou

A 30-year-old Irishman has been arrested and is being questioned by Policia Nacional in Salou on suspicion of murder.

A 36-year-old woman was found seriously injured in the corridor of the Hotel Magnolia on the Catalan resort on Monday night, however despite the actions of emergency services, she was declared dead at the scene.

Officers located the man lying beside the victim with self inflicted injuries.

He was taken to hospital for treatment before being taken to a nearby police station.

The Ajuntament Salou announced a minutes silence as a mark of respect for the woman, who has not been named.
