Over half of those who died behind wheel consumed drink or drugs
Over half of those who have died on the roads in Spain had either alcohol or drugs in their systems, data released by the DGT this week has shown.
51.9% of the 854 drivers who were killed in accidents last year and whose remains were subjet to a post mortem, were found to have consumed alcohol or drugs prior to getting behind the wheel.
The study, released by the National Institute of Toxicology shows a growing trend of drug driving as well, with a nearly 3% increase in dead drivers who were found to have drugs in their bloodstream.
67% of those who tested positive in post mortem toxicology reports were found to have consumed alcohol, with 39% drugs and 28% psychotropic drugs.
