Pope Francis declares Antoni Gaudí venerable for beatification

Pope Francis has declared Antoni Gaudí venerable, the first step on the road to sainthood for the Catalan architect.

The proclamation was made during an audience with Cardinal Marcello Semeraro, prefect of the Dicastery for the Causes of Saints.

Gaudí, famous for his work on the Sagrada Familia, dedicated his life to the project, calling the work his divine mission.
