British person tests positive for Covid-19 in Tenerife

A British woman who was staying at the H10 Costa Adeje Palace hotel has been confirmed to be carrying the Covid-19 virus in Tenerife according to Canarian health authorities.

The person, who was not part of the initial group of Italians who tested positive, has been taken to an isolation unit in hospital for treatment.

Medical teams are now investigating the source of this latest infection.

The latest person who tested positive is symptom free. Along with the others in the archipelago, all are understood to be in good health.

In total, 193 people have left the hotel in Costa Adeje after it was placed under quarantine restrictions last week.

The Canarian Department of Health has set up a free telephone number – 900 112 061 – to deal with requests from the general public.

The public are reminded that anyone who feels they might have coronavirus related symptoms (coughing, sore throat, fever, breathlessness) and who has traveled from a risk zone in the last 14 days or may have had contact with someone from such an area should phone 1-1-2 but not go directly to a health centre or hospital A&E.
