Boat Arrives in Tenerife Carrying Migrants Amid Record Numbers
A boat with sixty migrants has reached Las Galletas in Tenerife – the first arrival of the year according to local authorities.
Emergency services reported two fatalities from those on board when they attended the boat as it arrived.
The last week of December saw a record one thousand nine hundred thirty-three migrants arrived in the Canary Islands.
Meanwhile, another boat carrying twenty-one people was intercepted at Ibiza.
This marked the first boat interception of the year for the Balearic Islands following a record of over five thousand eight hundred arrivals last year.
