First case of coronavirus reported in Spain, with patient responding well to treatment
The Health Ministry has confirmed the country’s first case of coronavirus, after a man was diagnosed on the island of La Gomera in the Canaries on Friday.
The patient is part of a group of five people who were taken in for observation last week after coming into contact with another person diagnosed with the virus in Germany.
On Sunday, the director of coordination for health emergencies for the ministry for health, Fernando Simón, said that the person was responding well to treatment.
A child who was tested in Barcelona at the weekend was found to not have the virus.
The World Health Organization declared the epidemic an international emergency on Thursday, with cases confirmed in nearly 20 countries.
