Man arrested for stabbing partner in Gran Canaria

A man has been arrested after allegedly stabbing his partner in Santa Lucía de Tirajana, on Gran Canaria.

The forty-year-old suspect reportedly called the Guardia Civil himself during the early hours of Wednesday, saying he had stabbed his partner.

The thirty-eight-year-old woman suffered multiple stab wounds and was taken to hospital, where she remains in surgery in a serious condition.

The woman was already registered with Spain’s VioGén domestic-violence monitoring system because of a previous partner.

Police had assessed her risk in that earlier case as low.
