Two detained on suspicion of €80,000 copper theft
Guardia Civil in Fuerteventura have detained two men on suspicion of stealing €80,000 worth of copper cable.
Officers in Morro Jable detained the pair – aged 46 and 52 – in connection with five reported copper thefts on the island.
The first theft of copper was reported at a public sports ground in Pájara, with subsequent thefts of copper cabling from transformer sites and water pumping facilities.
Officers stopped the pair driving in a vehicle which contained 45 kilos of copper, with a further 184 kilos of copper wiring discovered at a property belonging to one of those detained.
