Spain Plans First Full Marine National Park

Spain is set to create its first fully marine national park – the Mar de las Calmas – located off El Hierro in the Canary Islands.

The area boasts rich biodiversity and underwater volcanic landscapes, making it a vital marine habitat.

The public consultation for the park has just opened, with potential parliament approval to follow.

If successful, it will protect twenty four thousand hectares of marine ecosystem.
