British driving licences no longer valid for residents in Spain
The post Brexit grace period for British residents to exchange their UK driving licence to a Spanish one has drawn to a close.
Any British citizen who has been resident in Spain for longer than six months will no longer be able to drive on their UK driving licence, and will have to take both a theory and practical driving test to be legally able to drive in Spain.
Negotiations between Spanish and UK Governments had been ongoing, however the UK Government were unable to come to an agreement with authorities in Madrid, however – British ambassador Hugh Elliott said negotiations were ongoing.
The change will not affect holidaymakers visiting the country, who can still use their UK driving licence.
