British cyclist wins this years La Vuelta

British cyclist Simon Yates has won this year’s La Vuelta cycle race after retaining the red jersey ahead of yesterday’s processional final stage in Madrid.

The 26-year-old, whose success was all but guaranteed as he headed into Sunday’s largely processional final stage into Madrid with a one minute and 46 seconds lead, avoided any late mishaps to land his first Grand Tour title.

The race began on the 10th August, and has seen cyclists tackle 3,297.7 km of course across the country in 21 stages.
