Briton Sentenced in Majorca Rape Case After Plea Deal

In a recent court case in Majorca, a British tourist named David McPaul Wigging has been sentenced to four years in prison after confessing to raping his son’s female friend in a Magaluf hotel room.

The incident, dating back to May 9, 2023, saw Spanish state prosecutors initially seek a nine-year prison term for Wigging.

However, he struck a plea bargain deal through his lawyer, substantially reducing his sentence.

The court took into account Wigging’s intoxicated state during the attack as a mitigating factor. In addition to serving his prison time, Wigging will be expelled from Spain upon completing half of his sentence.

The victim, who is also believed to be British, was attacked after consuming a large amount of alcohol and falling into a deep sleep.

Wigging’s assault only ceased when the victim woke up and resisted. Medical experts confirmed the victim’s injuries were consistent with the physical assault described.

Alongside his prison sentence, Wigging is also obligated to pay his victim £6,400 in compensation.

The case highlights the ongoing concerns regarding tourist behavior and safety in popular holiday destinations like Magaluf.
