Tourism spending breaks more records at €77bn for 2016

Total spending last year by foreign visitors to the country rose by 8.3% to €77 billion.

The results smash the record for the seventh year in a row: 75.3 million foreign visitors made their way to the country in 2016. That’s 7.2 million more than in 2015, a rise of 9.9%, according to early figures from Spain’s Energy and Tourism Ministry.

The majority of visitors to Spain came from the UK, a total of 16.9 million British made their way to Spain last year, 12.3% more than a year earlier.
