Spain’s Warm Winter Exacerbates Drought despite Recent Rains
Despite recent rains topping up reservoirs, Spain faces worsening drought conditions after it was confirmed that the country had the warmest start to the year since 1961.
According to data released by meteorological agency Aemet this week, the first quarter of the year looks set to be one of the warmest on records, with temperatures of nearly 30oC reported in January.
Even as Easter rains filled reservoirs to 60% capacity, experts have warned that persistent low water levels and climate change remain an ongoing issue for the country.
