Spain Pushes for Full Official Status of Regional Languages in the EU
The government has said it remains hopeful for the full recognition of the Basque, Catalan, and Galician languages within the EU.
The European Union’s General Affairs Council meets tomorrow to discuss the governments proposals, with Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares saying all Spanish political forces are engaging with their European counterparts.
However, opposition Partido Popular has criticises the government saying that they were politicising the languages.
Many say the outcome of this proposal could reshape the linguistic framework of the European Union.
