Russian ambassador summoned over Navalni death
The government has summoned the Russian ambassador to Madrid, Yuri Klimenko, to protest the death of Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalni.
Navalni, a prominent critic of Russian President Vladimir Putin and his policies, died last Friday in an Arctic prison where he was serving a 30-year sentence for various charges.
His family has not been granted access to his body.
Spanish Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares met with Navalni’s widow, Yulia Navalnaya, in Brussels, alongside other EU Foreign Ministers, and reiterated his support for democracy defenders worldwide.
