Wildfire areas to be declared “Civil Protection Emergency” zones
Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez has visited the Advanced Command Post in Navaluenga, Ávila, where he received the latest briefing on the major wildfires affecting Ávila, the Community of Madrid and neighbouring areas.
After meeting emergency commanders, firefighters and military personnel, Sánchez announced that Tuesday’s meeting of the Council of Ministers will approve a Royal Decree declaring all areas affected by the recent wildfires as zones seriously affected by civil protection emergencies.

He said the measure will unlock financial assistance and recovery support for affected residents, businesses and local authorities.
The Prime Minister also praised the cooperation between the emergency services, regional governments and neighbouring Portugal, while warning that more than 150,000 hectares have already burned this year and renewing his call for a national agreement to tackle climate change.
